Canadian sports hydration and nutrition company BioSteel has expanded its operations by establishing a new manufacturing facility in Ontario.
The “state-of-the-art” manufacturing facility in Windsor has undergone a National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) certification audit, with full certification expected soon, the company said in a statement.
NSF certification can be used by companies as an indicator of product quality and safety.
The move is expected to allow the company to take full control of its production process and “meet the stringent demands of professional athletes and leagues”.
“Having the ability to produce our own products and meet NSF standards is a complete game-changer for BioSteel”, CEO Dan Crosby said.
“It allows us to elevate our innovation and product quality while ensuring we remain the go-to brand for professional athletes and anyone seeking the best in hydration and nutrition.

By GlobalData“Establishing this facility in Windsor is about more than creating jobs – it’s about securing our position as a leader in sports hydration and nutrition.”
Founded in 2009, BioSteel produces ready-to-drink sports drinks and powders for the North American market.
The new Windsor site will produce powders and stick packs, with machines capable of manufacturing over 100 million stick packs a year and producing between 1,000 to 10,000 containers of powder per day, depending on demand, according to reports from local radio station AM800 CKLW.
Crosby was cited by the radio as saying that the sports drinks of BioSteel will continue to be produced by Flow Beverage in Aurora, Ontario for the time being.
In January last year, BioSteel and Flow Beverage struck a new three-year agreement to manufacture and package beverages of BioSteel in the Tetra Prisma format, an octagonal carton.
The business has been making BioSteel-branded beverages since 2020.
The estimated take-or-pay revenue to Flow Beverage is set to be over $19m throughout the term of the agreement.
