The DFS60I incremental rotary encoder from SICK provides a neat solution for applications in food processing, beverage filling, the pharmaceutical and packaging industries, and for sophisticated outdoor applications. Its housing, flange and shaft are made of stainless steel; they and the EDPM seal meet the most stringent requirements with regard to corrosion resistance and chemical resistance during exposure to humidity and aggressive media.

The resolution of up to 65,536 lines per revolution, which is optionally programmable by the customer, makes the encoder highly flexible in use and reduces the number of variants in stock. Various electrical interfaces offer numerous options for integration.

The DFS60I incremental encoder in stainless-steel design is a rotary positioning encoder with a protective enclosure rating of IP67, offering the highest level of precision and flexibility, and is designed specifically for use in harsh ambient conditions.

Extremely resistant to aggressive media and high temperatures due to inox steel and EPDM

The surfaces and components, such as housing, flange and shaft, exposed to the media, are made from extremely rugged inox steel featuring an excellent resistance to aggressive media. The seal ring consists of ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM) – a material which is characterized by an exceptional resistance to water and water-based systems such as acids and brines.

Freely programmable and therefore adjustable to the particular application

System integrators and machinery manufacturers in the food and beverage industry, pharmaceutical industry and packaging industry will particularly appreciate the programming feature of the DFS60I. Due to a resolution of 16 bits, the customer can freely program the number of pulses from 1 to 65,536, zero pulse position and zero pulse width, and set the voltage level of the output-side TTL or HTL interfaces exactly as is necessary for the application.

An external power source is not required for the programming – the encoder is connected via the output cable to the PGT-08-S programming tool, which first reads the current DFS60I settings off the electronic type label and then saves the new settings in the encoder. In this way, the DFS60I helps to reduce the number of components in use and promotes standardization, since one universal encoder can now solve an almost unlimited number of applications.

Highly versatile in terms of mounting options

The DFS60I with solid shaft – 10mm in diameter – provides for a wide variety of mechanical and electrical adjustments for easy mounting. The customer can choose, for example, between a servo flange and a face mount flange. The compact housing with a diameter of 60mm facilitates the space-saving installation of the encoder. The M12 connector with a radial cable outlet makes the encoder particularly suitable for difficult mounting situations due to limited space. As for electrical interfaces, the DFS60I features, amongst others, a 24V open collector interface, two six-channel TTL/RS422 interfaces with different signal levels, one six-channel HTL/push pull interface, and the aforementioned programmable TTL/HTL interfaces.

While providing numerous options for application-specific mechanical and electrical adjustments and thus ensuring an optimum installation, the DFS60I also reduces the number of variants and/or components in engineering, procurement and service.
