KAPTA 2000-AC2

Veolia Water is proud to annouce the launch of the new innovative sensor solution from ENDETEC™: the KAPTA™ 2000-AC2 in-line chlorine sensor for municipal and industrial applications.

The KAPTA 2000-AC2 new generation sensor is ENDETEC’s answer to in-line water sensing needs. With a complete line of amperometric probes, the KAPTA product range offers environmental detection solutions for water distribution network quality and industrial process control.

Utilising unique, microchip technology the KAPTA sensors are designed for multi-parameter sensors to be fitted within one probe head. Enhancing traditional probe manufacturing methods by bonding sensors and membranes to the probe surface allows for continuous measurements of impurities at high water pressure. This solution allows for the insertion of the KAPTA sensors directly into a water network.

The KAPTA 2000-AC2 sensor solution has been specifically developed to measure active chlorine (HOCl) and temperature directly within a pressurised pipe. The applications include management and control of a drinking water network, real-time, rapid control of chemical dosing for industrial water processes, protection of membranes and cleaning regimes and management of chlorine levels in swimming pools and spas.

The KAPTA 2000-AC2 is an amperometric sensor using a structured photo-polymerised membrane directly on the electrode which suppresses the well-known drawbacks of amperometric sensors with electrolyte, such as pressure and flow sensitivity. This enables the probe to be installed directly in pipes up to 10 bar flow pressure without flow or pressure control.

The sensor principle also eliminates the need for field re-calibration and on-going routine membrane replacement allowing both long-term stability of the signal and reduced maintenance costs.

The measurement is based on a Clark-type cell principle with working, counter and reference electrodes. The sensor design includes a simple replaceable head which is easy to handle and requires no reagent or electrolyte. As the lifetime of the sensor can vary according to the application, this design enables more flexibility and price improvement for critical applications.

The KAPTA 2000 controller has been designed specifically for the industrial and water treatment markets and, coupled with the KAPTA 2000-AC2 chlorine and temperature probe, provides a rapid, accurate measurement of free active chlorine. An optional KAPTA 2000-pH1 in-pipe sensor provides the additional benefit of measuring continuous pH and providing an automatic calculation of free active chlorine.

The controller is equipped with all the key functions required to provide the user with flexibility for set-up, measurement and control of systems from simple chlorine measurement and recording right through to industrial process control and chemical dosing.

The KAPTA 2000 controller is capable of measuring chlorine, ORP, pH and temperature and is fitted with two current outputs, four relays and PID functionality allowing up to six external points to be measured or controlled. Operation of the controller is simple with a 128×64 pixel resolution graphic display providing continuous readout of chlorine / temperature measurement and status of the control output devices, selectable in a choice of five different languages (English, French, German, Italian and Spanish).

The controller is IP66 rated, wall mounted and equipped for RS485 serial port communication for remote monitoring and data storage. On-board software is designed for two point calibrations to ensure accuracy, reliable performance and sensor diagnostic information.

"We recognised that lots of people from water network operators to industrial companies are asking for a solution that will help them to optimise their water network management and to ensure water quality control and avoid risk of contamination. That is why we developed this new KAPTA solution to address the need of our clients," Tim McDougle, VP global sales and marketing at ENDETEC, explained. "And we are very confident that this new KAPTA 2000-AC2 solution will live up to the expectations of our municipal as well as industrial customers," he added.
