Canada-based organic food company Nature’s Path is to acquire baby food and children's snack brand Love Child Organics from local peer GreenSpace Brands.
The deal, struck for an undisclosed sum, marks Nature’s Path’s entry into the baby food market. The transaction is scheduled to close on around 30 June.
"The brand carries a warmth and commitment to quality that we hold dear at Nature’s Path Organic Foods, making it a perfect addition to our family of brands. We are eager to carry forward the Love Child Organics brand promise of nourishing growing bodies, hearts and minds,” Nature’s Path president Arjan Stephens said.
Love Child manufactures snack brands aimed at children such as Sealfriends, Oaty Chomps and Love Duck, as well as baby purees in pouches under the Love Child Organics brand name.
In April, GreenSpace Brands revealed it was looking for a buyer of Love Child Organics as the loss-making business embarked on a restructuring exercise.
The Toronto-listed company outlined what it calls a ‘stalking horse agreement’ with its “senior” lender, Pivot Financial, with a view to selling the brand, a separate financing package and a so-called stay of proceedings with the creditor.
Nature Path is a privately-owned food enterprise that operates in North America. Its portfolio includes granola and cereal brands such as Nature's Path, Love Crunch, Que Pasa, and EnviroKidz.
In 2021, the company acquired a majority stake in local flour supplier Anita’s Organic Mill.
Nature’s Path had been a customer of Anita’s Organic Mill’s for six years before the buy-out. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
