Italian pasta manufacturer Il Pastaio plans to set up its first factory in North America.
The company is looking to establish a 71,300 ft2 facility in Gregg Township in Pennsylvania.
Pierluigi Colombi, Il Pastaio's CEO, said: “The opening of this plant is certainly an important step for Il Pastaio but it also materialises the idea of making our contribution to the integration of the best Italian traditions with the energy and the agro-food culture of the United States.”
Set up in 1983, the manufacturer has three manufacturing locations in Italy. The company said it wants to set up production in the US to meet increasing demand. The group, which has its headquarters in Brescia in northern Italy, also exports to other markets in Europe and to Australia.
According to a statement from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), the project "will inject more than $12.5m into the local economy and create at least 74 new, full-time jobs" in the area.
The Pennsylvania state administration is to provide a $111,000 grant for workforce training and up to $72,200 in tax credits.
