Fresh Hemp Foods buys US healthy cracker maker The Humble Seed

Fresh Hemp Foods said it plans to expand The Humble Seed range of products across grocery stores and e-commerce outlets.

Fresh Hemp Foods, a Canadian hemp food specialist, has broadened its wellness foods portfolio with the acquisition of US-based snack brand The Humble Seed.

Financial details have not been disclosed.

Winnipeg-based Fresh Hemp Foods, which owns the Manitoba Harvest brand, said it plans to expand The Humble Seed range of products across grocery stores and e-commerce outlets in North America.

The Humble Seed, a better-for-you snack brand founded in 2022, offers a range of seed-based crackers made with six ‘super seeds’, including hemp.

Its products are currently sold through retailers including Sprouts, HEB and The Fresh Market, as well as via e-commerce sites including Amazon.

Its crackers are grain-free, gluten-free, and non-GMO project verified and come in three flavours.

Jared Simon, president of Manitoba Harvest, said: “We are excited to integrate The Humble Seed brand into our line of products and our manufacturing infrastructure, robust distribution network, sales and marketing.

“The Humble Seed will now join Manitoba Harvest, the leading global hemp food brand, to further our goal of educating consumers on the power of hemp and other super seeds. Seeds are often tiny, but mighty, and pack a punch in terms of plant-based protein and healthful omega-3 fatty acids.”

Manitoba Harvest dates back to 1998. Its product portfolio includes Hemp Hearts (shelled hemp seed), Hemp Protein, Hemp Protein Blends, Hemp Granola, and Hemp Oil. Its products are sold globally, including in approximately 17,000 retail stores across North America.
