US dairy-alts supplier Elmhurst 1925 is entering the plant-based meat market.

The company has launched a plant-based chicken product made from hemp protein.

Elmhurst 1925 is marketing a dry powder, allowing consumers to make plant-based cutlets. They add the powder to water, adding oil and a blend of spices.

Elmhurst 1925 is selling its TerraMeat Plant-Based Chick’n Starter Kit online through its Elmhurst1925.com website at an SRP of $47.50.

The kit includes ten pouches of Plant-Based Chick’n powder, ten packets of a blend of spices, a silicone mixing cup and a spatula.

Elmhurst 1925 said the product – sold under the TerraMeat brand – provides “26g of complete protein per serving”. It added the product “develops the texture and layering that you get in traditional meats without the need for filler ingredients, texturising agents, whiteners and other unnecessary additives currently found on shelves”.

The origins of the US business are in conventional dairy but it switched to non-dairy products in 2017.

“We are bringing the same innovation and commitment to quality that we brought to plant-based dairy,” Elmhurst 1925 CEO Henry Schwartz said. “Consumers are increasingly seeking simple ingredients and clean-label alternatives to the ultra-processed options on the market. We couldn’t be prouder to offer a product that excels in taste, texture and nutrition.”
