Warburtons, the UK-based bakery group, has added to its domestic range with what it claims is a market first.

The privately-owned business is this week rolling out Toastie Pockets, which the company described as a “toastie you toast in the toaster”.

Darren Littler, innovation director at Warburtons, said: “Brits have always loved their sandwich toasties but with lifestyles getting busier than ever, demand for quick and convenient meal solutions has never been so great. We want to make everyone’s favourite sandwich toasties more convenient for everyone to enjoy.”

Warburtons has launched products made with white and brown bread. Sold in packs of four, the Toastie Pockets have a recommended retail price of GBP1.20 (US$1.47).

In September, Warburtons launched a protein-enhanced range of bakery products, with the company saying foods with added protein had gone “mainstream”.

The latest accounts issued by the family-owned Warburtons show the company made an operating profit before exceptional items of GBP35.4m in the 52 weeks ended 26 September 2015, down 2.4% on the previous year. Turnover increased by 0.7% to GBP551.5m.
