A new hypermarket is due to open in the Binh Chanh district of Ho Chi Minh City next week, the result of a US$35m joint venture project between French Groupe Bourbon and the Vietnamese Binh Chanh Construction and Investment Company.
The company formed by these two groups is called Espace Bourbon An Lac, and it is 80% controlled by the French group. This is the second supermarket opened by Bourbon in Vietnam, the first a result of a US$54m joint project with Dong Nai Province in 1998.
Called the Cora An Lac Hypermarché, the new store will employ 400 members of staff. It has a shopping area of 6,000m², with ten restaurants for lease and 40 booths. It is looking to source products from around 1,000 local suppliers and cater for Vietnamese consumers. To win business from the more established players, the store will extend opening hours significantly.
