Yum! Restaurants International (YRI), the Dallas-based global arm of Yum! Brands that owns or franchises nearly 11,500 restaurants outside of the US, has named Randy Gier to the newly created position of chief marketing officer (CMO).
Gier will report to Scott Bergren, YRI chief concept officer, who commented: “Gier is uniquely qualified to serve as CMO for our international KFC and Pizza Hut businesses. He brings a proven track record of experience, and a real focus on consumer insights based on his marketing leadership at these two brands in the US.
“International expansion is one of the key strategic growth drivers for Yum! Brands, and Gier’s marketing savvy will help us enhance our global brand positioning and category dominance,” Bergren added.
Gier, 41, most currently served as CMO of Pizza Hut in the US, and held that same role at KFC in the US prior to that. Gier will retain his current role until mid-September.
Mike Rawlings, Pizza Hut president and chief concept officer, said: “Gier has made many contributions to Pizza Hut’s success over the last five years. We are pleased he will transfer these skills to our growing international business.”
Additionally, YRI announced that Ray Colon will become VP, worldwide knowledge transfer, from his current role as CMO of KFC. Colon will be responsible for overseeing “best practice” sharing across the Yum! Brands global system.
