US supermarket chain Winn-Dixie Stores has said its insurance will cover losses resulting from inventory damage, property damage, power outages, preparation and cleanup expenses and civil authority closings related to recent hurricanes in the southern US.

The company said it expects to be fully covered for losses due to Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne in excess of its US$10.3m annual insurance deductible.

Winn-Dixie said that although it has some stores closed as a result of the hurricanes, its distribution centres and manufacturing facilities have not been affected significantly and are fully operational.
