US natural and organic food retailer Wild Oats Markets has announced that it has become the first US food retailer to offer Fair Trade Certified bananas.

The bananas, which are certified by TransFair USA, an independent, third-party certifier of Fair Trade products, are now available in 70 Wild Oats Natural Marketplace stores in 23 states.
The Boulder, Colorado-based food retailer also sells Fair Trade coffee, tea and chocolate, and expects to add other Fair Trade produce items in the future.
Fair Trade bananas guarantee a fair price is paid to banana growers and plantation workers.
