Webvan Group Inc. (Nasdaq:WBVN), announced yesterday that is has successfully completed its technology platform integration goals and is now operating in all of its markets under a unified brand and Webstore. Last week, Webvan’s Seattle and Portland markets were the last two of the five former HomeGrocer markets to undergo the technology platform transition, which occurred a full month ahead of the original schedule. This accomplishment allows Webvan to offer customers in all markets added features and benefits and run a more efficient operation.

“The completion of the technology conversion is a huge milestone in Webvan’s continued commitment to provide its customers with a shopping experience second to none,” said Bob Swan, CEO of Webvan Group, Inc. “The unified platform provides Webvan’s customers with a best-of-breed shopping experience, arms our Associates with improved tools to enhance the quality and cost effectiveness of our service, and lays the groundwork for more effective best practices sharing between all markets. We’re particularly pleased with this achievement as it coincides with another company landmark — the delivery of our four millionth order this week.”

The technology platform is a hybrid of best practices from HomeGrocer and Webvan which enables Webvan to offer customers in all seven markets best-of-breed shopping, including broader selection; enhanced availability; online coupons; a recently launched customer loyalty program; a new “quick shop” feature; and invoicing capabilities for business customers.

Efficiency enhancements include better delivery optimization and more efficient real time inventory capabilities.

Swan praised the cross-function conversion team responsible for this feat, made up of members from Webvan’s organization, including many former HomeGrocer Associates, as well as the operating teams in each Webvan market. “When Webvan acquired HomeGrocer.com, we knew we needed to operate on one unified technology platform and we knew we had to get there fast,” Swan commented. “The talent and dedication of our conversion team and our various area operating teams is outstanding. They took on a massively complex task with an aggressive timetable and delivered one unified platform ahead of schedule.”
