Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. reported net sales for the four-week period ending May 4, 2001, of $16.164 billion, an increase of 13.9 percent over the $14.196 billion in the similar period in the prior year. Sales for the thirteen-week period were $49.819 billion, an increase of 12.3 percent over the $44.380 billion in the similar period in the prior year.

The Wal-Mart division’s sales for the four-week period were $10.292 billion, up 14.4 percent over sales of $8.994 billion in the similar prior-year period. The division’s sales for the thirteen weeks of $31.580 billion were up 12.3 percent over the $28.113 billion in the similar prior-year period.


SAM’S CLUB sales for the four-week period were $2.129 billion, up 11.2 percent over sales of $1.915 billion in the similar prior-year period. Club sales for the thirteen weeks of $6.707 billion were up 8.5 percent over the $6.184 billion in the similar prior-year period.
