US meat producer Tyson Foods has announced that it is to cut 500 US jobs as it integrates the operations of meatpacker IBP, which Tyson acquired last year.

The company, which employs around 118,000 people, said no specific plants or positions are to be targeted, rather all of the company’s operations are being considered. Tyson hopes to cut positions that are already vacant as well as eliminating jobs as people retire, reported the Associated Press.

Tyson said the job cuts, which are expected to take place over the next two years, are partly due to the large workforce that resulted following the acquisition of IBP.
