Philadelphia’s Tasty Baking Company (TBC) has announced that Charles P. Pizzi has been named president and CEO effective 7 October 2002.
Carl S. Watts, current chairman, president and CEO, is due to retire and said that the board of directors believes Pizzi is a leader with “unparalleled integrity and experience.”
Watts added: “We’ve carefully searched for my successor and Charlie was the most impressive candidate we’ve met, and we welcome him on board.”
Pizzi added: “I have worked with TBC management for more than 20 years. I look forward to accepting this new challenge and contributing to the expansion of the company in the coming years.”
Pizzi assumed the presidency of the Philadelphia Commerce Chamber in 1989. Since that time, he has tripled the revenue, expanded the organisations’ operating reserves and built the Chamber into a powerful voice for the region’s business community.

By GlobalDataAcknowledging that there will be a “learning curve” at TBC, Pizzi noted that there would be a smooth transition in management. Watts will remain chairman and mentor to Pizzi until 2004.
“Charlie brings with him not only the management skills of running a successful organization but the experience of serving on the boards of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange, Vestaur Securities, Day & Zimmerman and Brandywine Realty Trust. His tenure as vice chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives has provided him with a host of national contacts that will serve TBC well in the coming years,” said Watts.
Watts added that Pizzi will continue building upon TBC’s current strategic plan of growing sales in the company’s route operations, establishing alternative methods and channels of distribution, introducing new products and seeking strategic acquisitions.
