SYSCO Corporation (NYSE: SYY), North America’s largest foodservice marketer and distributor, today announced the following executive promotions for FreshPoint, Inc., the company’s specialty produce subsidiary. Richard J. Schnieders, president and chief operating officer of SYSCO, said all appointments are effective immediately.

By GlobalDataMr. Parker, 50, began his career in the produce industry in 1970 at C.L Fain Company in Atlanta, Georgia and in 1975 he founded his own produce business, Mitt Parker Company, in Atlanta. In 1988 he sold the company to Albert Fisher, LTD and served as president of the operation until 1992 when he was promoted to vice president of the Eastern Region for Albert Fisher North America. Mr. Parker was named president and chief executive officer of FreshPoint in 1996 after the company was purchased from Albert Fisher through a management buyout, and he continued in that role and became senior vice president of SYSCO Corporation following SYSCO’s acquisition of FreshPoint in March of this year. Mr. Parker, who has two grown daughters, resides in Houston with his wife Crystal.
Brian M. Sturgeon Appointed President and Chief Operating Officer of FreshPoint, Inc.
Mr. Sturgeon, 43, began his career in produce in 1990 as chief financial officer for Albert Fisher North America. In 1996, following the management buyout of FreshPoint from Albert Fisher, he was named chief operating officer of the company, a position he retained after SYSCO purchased FreshPoint earlier this year. Prior to joining the produce industry he served as an accountant for the firm of Deloitte and Touche in Miami, Florida, and also was a senior vice president for the largest furniture retailer in South Florida. Mr. Sturgeon is a Certified Public Accountant and a 1979 graduate of Florida International University in Miami, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting. He and his wife, Lynn, have a daughter and a son and will relocate to Houston in the near future.
Richard J. Dachman Becomes Executive Vice President, Western Region.
Mr. Dachman, 44, is a native of Denver, Colorado. He began his produce career at his family-owned business, Perry’s Produce, and also attended Colorado State University. Following the sale of Perry’s Produce in 1979 he and his father opened a new foodservice operation in Denver for Kraft Foods, Inc. before joining Kraft’s corporate office as national director of produce in 1987. In 1992 he joined FreshPoint as president of Southern Produce, the company’s Houston, Texas operation, and in 1994 he was named president of Produce America, FreshPoint’s central procurement office. In 1998 he transferred to Denver as general manager of FreshPoint’s JDS&R Produce operation and the following year was appointed to his current position as president of FreshPoint’s Atlanta Group. He and his wife, Clari, have three sons and will relocate to Houston in the near future.
Robert K. Shoemaker, Jr. Remains Executive Vice President, Eastern Region.
Mr. Shoemaker, 38, was named Executive Vice President, Eastern Region earlier this year and will continue in that position and assume additional duties managing FreshPoint’s sales and training efforts. He began his produce career at FreshPoint’s Florida-based Red’s Market in 1985 as a marketing associate. He progressed through a variety of management positions at the company and in 1990 was named president of the organization. Mr. Shoemaker also has held several management positions with Albert Fisher North America before being appointed to his current position this year after SYSCO acquired FreshPoint. Mr. Shoemaker is a graduate of Florida State University where he earned a bachelor of science degree in economics. He and his wife, Lynn, have 2 children and reside in Orlando, Florida.
Henry P. Jolly Promoted to President of Produce America.
Mr. Jolly, 46, has most recently served as senior vice president of merchandising at Sysco Food Services of Dallas, LP. He began his career at SYSCO in 1983 as a produce specialist for Mid-Central/SYSCO, the predecessor company to Sysco Food Services of Kansas City, Inc., and in 1985 was named produce manager at Hardin’s-Sysco Food Services, LLC in Memphis, Tennessee. In 1989 he was promoted to director of merchandising at Sysco Food Services of Houston, LP, and in 1997 was appointed to his current position at SYSCO’s Dallas operation. He and his wife, Penny, will be relocating to Houston in the near future.
