As part of the overall repositioning of the Edward’s Food Stores within Ahold, USA. Giant Food Inc. of Landover, Maryland will acquire operating control of four Edward’s stores located at: 1556 North Olden Avenue, Ewing, NJ (Capital Plaza Shopping Center); Rt 530 & Lacey Road, Whiting, NJ (The Whiting Shopping Center); 1710 Highway 38, Mt Holly, NJ (Evergreen Mall; and 635 South Clinton Avenue, Trenton, NJ (The Roebling Complex). The four stores, which are contiguous to Giant Food’s existing Super G stores in Southern New Jersey, will operate under the Super G banner. The four stores currently employ approximately 480 people, and Giant plans to maintain existing staff and management. Giant presently operates six Super G’s in New Jersey and three in Delaware.
In May, Ahold, the parent of Giant, Edward’s, Stop & Shop and other U.S. supermarket and food distribution operations, announced that the Edward’s stores would operate as Stop & Shops, with conversions during the second half of 2000. Nineteen stores have been converted to Stop & Shops to date.
