The Seattle division of US grocery retailer Safeway is recalling half-gallon size cartons of Lucerne Chocolate Ice Cream, because they may contain undeclared peanuts.
Safeway said people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The recalled Lucerne Chocolate Ice Cream was distributed to less than 85 Safeway stores in Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and the city of Milton Freewater, Oregon between 16 April and 27 April 2004. The recalled product has a 21130-08039 UPC number and a Best Before JAN 10 05 53-38 date.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that products containing peanuts had been distributed in packaging that did not declare on the label that peanuts were among the ingredients. The cause of the problem is under investigation, Safeway said, adding that there have been no reported cases of illness related to the recalled product to date.
