Rica Foods, Inc. announced today that it has signed a letter of intent to acquire an interest in Poultryfirst.com in the near future.
Poultryfirst.com, launched in January 2000, is the first and most comprehensive Internet catalog and auction environment designed to provide significant cost and time savings to both sellers and purchasers of poultry products.
“RCF has been actively using the poultry portal since its launching as a potential means of reducing costs, streamlining processes and reaching a wider audience for our products,” said Mr. Calixto Chaves, RCF’S Chairman and CEO.
Poultryfirst.com was designed with the vision of creating the world’s first virtual business-to-business poultry market place which would add value to the poultry industry, providing leading business tools and market data, using formats of auctions for fresh products, catalogs for value-added products, and an unprecedented access to the global markets.
“For some time now, Rica has been evaluating strategies to participate in an e-commerce business through a portal that could revolutionize poultry commerce through the Internet. Our goal is not only to be the pioneers in having an exclusive site for commercializing poultry through the Internet but to also to be the first company to ‘get it right,’ Mr. Chaves added. The Company believes that it could achieve this goal by investing in Poultryfirst.com.
RCF is the parent Company of the largest poultry producers in Costa Rica. RCF’S subsidiaries supply poultry products in Costa Rica to Burger King, Pizza Hut, Subway, KFC, Price Smart, Gerber Products, and to McDonald’s restaurants in Central America.
