A Lancaster Country farm has confirmed an outbreak of avian influenza.
The farm, near Mount Joy in south eastern Pennsylvania, has been infected with the H2N2 strain of avian influenza. This is not likely to be harmful to humans.
It is a different version of the virus than that found on two farms in Delaware and in live bird markets in New Jersey. None of the virus so far identified in the US resembles the H5N1 virus that has transferred to humans in Asia, killing 20 people so far.
The infected farm has been quarantined, and flocks on 16 nearby farms are being tested.
