Salem, Oregon-based supermarket chain Roth’s is providing online grocery shopping with a convenient pick-up or delivery service.
Michael Roth, CEO of the twelve-store chain, commented: “Our customers are increasingly time pressured from all sides, work, family and community.
“We want to make their lives a bit simpler and give them back their Saturday mornings.”
Consumers click the shop online button from www.Roths.com home page and then let their computer walk the aisles for their weekly groceries. Their selections show up at their door a few hours later or customers can choose to drive through and pickup their order at the store. Their complete shopping list is saved and future online shopping takes less than 15 minutes on average.
The MyWebGrocer Consumer Direct Shopping Solution is the technology infrastructure underlying the Roth’s new online service. Roth explained: “We opened in the valley forty years ago and have built a reputation for high quality goods and superior service. Offering online shopping and grocery delivery are logical next steps in building our leadership in the Oregon Grocery Trade. Oregon customers are demanding and deserve the best. We went out and found the best application, best processes, best systems and most experience with MyWebGrocer.
“In Portland, Safeway started an online service after spending over US$50m and over a year working with GroceryWorks and Tesco.

MyWebGrocer’s President, Mike Spindler added: “Since last Fall, we have seen a dramatic increase in supermarkets interested in offering the convenience of shopping online. A good deal of that interest stems from the sales growth in this channel. The business is small, between 1% and 3% of sales, but it can more than double every year. There are few channels where a grocer can experience that type of growth, particularly in the face of the competitive challenge of the Super-Centers.
“Further, the business can become profitable quickly as long as the grocer leverages their current infrastructure. We are very happy to have high quality grocers such as Roth’s join our client family.”
