Jenny Scott, Senior Director in the Office of Food Safety Programs for the National Food Processors Association, will assume the office of President of the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP), at the group’s annual meeting this week in Atlanta.
IAFP is a leading international association of food safety professionals. The Association has more than 3,000 members in 50 countries working to advance food safety worldwide.
“It is a distinct honor for Jenny Scott to be elected President of IAFP, and it is an honor that is richly deserved,” said Dr. Rhona Applebaum, NFPA’s Executive Vice President for Scientific and Regulatory Affairs. “Jenny is one of this country’s leading food safety experts. Her election as President of this Association is recognition by the food industry, government, and academic experts of her outstanding efforts on behalf of IAFP and the cause of food safety research and education for all stakeholders.”
In her current position at NFPA, Scott is responsible for providing expertise and guidance on issues and policies related to microbial food safety and HACCP, as well as technical assistance on NFPA member problems.
Scott received an A.B. degree in biology from Wellesley College, an M.S. in bacteriology from the University of Wisconsin, and an M.S. in food science from the University of Maryland. She came to NFPA in 1980 as a Research Microbiologist, and has held numerous positions with the Association, including Director of Processing Technology and Microbiology, prior to becoming Senior Director in NFPA’s Office of Food Safety Programs. She has published numerous research papers and book chapters in the areas of microbial food safety and food processing, and has been recipient of several awards in recognition of her food safety activities.
NFPA is the voice of the $460 billion food processing industry on scientific and public policy issues involving food safety, nutrition, technical and regulatory matters and consumer affairs.
