US doughnut maker and retailer Krispy Kreme is to close a doughnut factory in northeast Ohio due to oversupply.

The company said it will close the US$4.6m plant on 16 October because demand is not currently keeping up with supply, reported the Associated Press. The plant in Ravenna employs fewer than 75 people.

Krispy Kreme has lately been experiencing difficulties, which it has mainly attributed to poor sales due to the popularity of low-carbohydrate diets in the US. The company is also the subject of a probe by the US Securities and Exchange Commission
