US snacks maker Nabisco, a unit of US food giant Kraft, has announced the recall of certain boxes of Mini Oreo Chocolate Sandwich Cookies because the bags inside may contain Ritz Bits Cheese Sandwiches, which are made with milk ingredients.

The recalled products are 1.5 oz. “Carry Me Pack” boxes of Mini Oreo Chocolate Sandwich Cookies with the two “Best When Purchased” dates of 20JANBK and 21JANBK. Nabisco estimates that approximately 195,000 small boxes of the recalled product were produced and that fewer than 2,000 cartons may have the wrong product in the box. The boxes were produced for special club pack trays for BJ’s Wholesale Club stores in the eastern United States. The mislabelled product has so far only been found in retail stores in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
Nabsico said no illnesses or allergic reactions related to consumption of the recalled product have been reported to date. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these Ritz Bits Cheese Sandwiches that contain milk, but there is no health risk for consumers who are not allergic to milk.
The company learned of the error when consumers in Massachusetts and New Hampshire reported finding Ritz Bits Cheese Sandwich bags in Mini Oreo cartons. Kraft said the packaging error occurred at a supplier, and the company has taken steps to prevent a recurrence.
