Vigo Importing Company knows about timing. As the Hispanic population and its influence on popular tastes grow, and as consumers increasingly express a desire for both traditional flavor and modern convenience, Vigo has introduced three new soup mixes that astutely answer to the market.
Vigo Spanish Garbanzo Bean Soup, Black Bean Soup, and Southwestern Black Bean Puree are beginning to show up on grocer’s shelves and should be readily available in supermarkets in time for the cooler fall season.
The suggested retail price for the soups is under $2.00, offering a per- ounce cost that compares favorably to other brands. They are packaged in 6-ounce foil bags and labeled in the bright yellow recognized by shoppers familiar with Vigo’s ubiquitous saffron yellow rice.
Preparation is quick and simple. Users are instructed to stir the package contents into 4-1/2 cups of boiling water and cook uncovered over medium heat for only 12-14 minutes.
The results are a full quart of rich, satisfying soups that reflect the tradition of their authentic Spanish and Cuban recipes. Adding to their enjoyment is the assurance that Vigo’s soups are fat-free and cholesterol- free, a benefit that responds to another trend among consumers.
Vigo’s spokesperson Laura DeLucia again sees a timing opportunity for the product: “The soups fulfill a niche with their authentic recipes and easy preparation. But when January comes around, we can also talk to consumers about their New Year resolutions to eat healthier.”

By GlobalDataSoup is an ancient food whose origins predate recorded history. From its likely beginnings as a meager combination of meats and vegetables in a simple broth, soups have become more refined over time with the addition of spices, beans, and grains. No longer thought of as a food for the poor, soup has reached an elevated status of sophistication and is recognized today for its tastes and healthful attributes.
With the introduction of their Spanish Garbanzo Bean, Black Bean, and Black Bean Puree soups, Vigo has recognized the place consumers hold at their tables for a quality soup. Early next year, the company will extend its offering with the addition of Vigo Spanish Collard Green Soup.
