The American Tasting Institute is pleased to announce Bestfoods’ (NYSE: BFO) Hellmann’s® and Best Foods® salad dressings as the 2000 American Taste Award Gold Medal winners in the shelf-stable, bottled salad dressing category.
Hellmann’s and Best Foods salad dressings were judged “excellent” by a panel of professional Chefs in San Francisco in a blind judging. In addition, Hellmann’s and Best Foods’ new Citrus Splash(TM) salad dressings won the added honor of being “Best of Show” in this category. All Gold Medal winners are judged superior in terms of taste and freshness to the competition.
The entire line of Hellmann’s and Best Foods salad dressings, including such classics as Creamy Ranch, Italian and Thousand Island, was awarded the gold medal.
“Best of Show” winner Citrus Splash salad dressings feature innovative flavor combinations of citrus and vinaigrettes. They come in five refreshingly delicious varieties: Orange Vinaigrette, Tangy Tangerine, Oriental Orange, Ruby Red Ginger and Tangerine Balsamic. In addition to their great taste, the Citrus Splash dressings have the added appeal of being a good source of Vitamin C. Made with real Florida citrus, they feature the Florida Department of Citrus “Sunshine Tree” logo on their label. This marks the first time a national food manufacturer, other than orange juice producers, has been allowed to use this prestigious symbol.
“We pride ourselves on offering high quality and great tasting products. To be recognized in this manner by the American Tasting Institute is particularly satisfying for Bestfoods,” said Keith Bobier, Business Director for Hellmann’s and Best Foods Products, on winning the Gold Medal award.
Chef Jesse Sartain founded the American Tasting Institute in 1993 with his professional Chef colleagues as a private organization to promote taste, safety and nutrition in food products. A panel of professional Chefs conduct “blind” judgings in a variety of food categories to recognize the best food products in the general market today. Products are judged primarily for taste. Appearance and freshness are also considered.

By GlobalData“Taste is our principal criteria. There are so many ill-tasting products in the general market that our Chefs are compelled to comment and guide consumers and foodservice buyers to a better taste experience,” Sartain commented. “Good taste can be so easily achieved!”
