StarMedia Network (Nasdaq: STRM; http://www.starmedia.com), the leading Internet media company for Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking audiences worldwide, and The Danone Group (NYSE: DA), a worldwide leader in the food industry, yesterday announced a strategic partnership to co-brand StarMedia.com’s “En Forma” (In Shape) channel, which will feature unique information to promote health and well-being. The two companies will also create a new teen online destination with community features and content specially tailored for teens. The new products will launch first in Mexico in June of 2001, with subsequent rollouts in Argentina, and Brazil during the summer of 2001.
The partnership, between StarMedia and the fresh dairy products division of The Danone Group, capitalizes on the expertise of two leading global companies, leveraging StarMedia’s leading position in Latin America, with over 27 million unique users, and Danone’s strong market presence and trusted brands.
The partnership calls for extensive online and offline marketing components which may include placement of URLs on Danone merchandise, broadcast and print advertisements, and point of sale promotions in Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil. The “En Forma” channel will feature specialized content, provided by Danone, such as nutritional, fitness, and family interest information. Additionally, the co-branded teen destination will provide users with StarMedia’s tools and applications including email, chat, and search capability, as well as locally and globally relevant content.
