The US Food and Drug Administration (USDA) has invested in new technology to respond to increasing consumer concerns about food safety.

The USDA has updated its Microbiological Data Programme (MDP) through the acquisition of nine TEMPO units, which perform automated food quality testing and cataloguing functions.

The units have been developed and manufactured by French industrial microbiology and diagnostics company BioMérieux.

“Food borne illness and food adulteration are major public health and economic concerns for the consumers and the industry,” said Alexandre Mérieux, corporate VP, BioMérieux Industry Business. “BioMérieux developed TEMPO to specifically answer the need for better food safety and quality.”
