Unilever has continued with its long-running programme to change its ice cream production in the US with fresh investment in a facility in Tennessee.

The Anglo-Dutch conglomerate is spending US$100m on expanding its plant in Covington, state officials said on Tuesday (5 October).

Ice cream brands like Breyers, Klondike, Good Humor, and Popsicle will be produced alongside Unilever’s Slim-Fast products, state officials added.

Tennessee state governor Phil Bredesen cheered the creation of 275 jobs. “I’m pleased Unilever has chosen to further solidify its presence in Tennessee and we look forward to working with them on this ambitious expansion project.”

In June, Unilever said it would close an ice cream manufacturing plant in the US state of Maryland with the loss of 460 jobs.
