Unilever is launching 36 gluten-free flavours of Breyers ice cream in the US.
Having undergone a gluten-free verification process, a gluten-free logo will appear on “family favourites” including natural vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and mint choc chip, Unilever said. Recipes will remain unchanged, the group added.
“As a brand known for offering frozen treats for the entire family, we’re happy to announce 36 of our popular Breyers varieties are now labelled gluten free,” said Nick Soukas, director of ice cream for Unilever. “Now, people following a gluten-free diet can be sure that the flavours they know and love are compatible with their dietary needs.”
According to Montel, a research firm, 2013 gluten-free sales topped US$10.5bn in 2013 and are expected to rise by 48% to $15.6bn in 2016.
