Trader Joe’s has recalled its Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter after it was linked to 29 salmonella cases in 18 US states.
The US retailer launched the recall on Saturday (22 September) after a potential link between the product and the salmonella outbreak was established, the US Food and Drug Administration said. Trader Joe’s was warned on the potential link by the FDA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and health officials from the state of California on 20 September.

The recall includes peanut butter with an SKU number of 97111 sold nationwide.
According to the CDC, 29 cases have currently been identified, although this number could grow, a spokesperson for the US agency conceded.
“With a pantry staple, if consumers are not aware of the recall then the potential for future consumption weeks and even months down the line raises its head. We are advising consumers not to eat Trader Joe’s Valencia Creamy Salted peanut butter and to carefully check their pantries for any product that could be included,” a CDC official said. “Any remaining jars should be disposed of or returned to stores.”
