The American Popcorn Co., the owner of the Jolly Time brand, has worked with US group Boulder Brands to develop popcorn for “health-conscious” consumers.

Jolly Time Butter and Jolly Time Butter Light are made with a blend of oils marketed under Boulder’s Smart Balance brand.

“Smart Balance is an extremely popular and visible brand that’s known for offering heart healthier alternatives,” Garrett Smith, president of Jolly Time Pop Corn, said. “Consumers across the country trust the Smart Balance name, and we are proud to offer popcorn lovers these new additions to the Jolly Time line-up.”

Boulder, which was named Smart Balance until the company was renamed last year, claims the Smart Balance blend helps support healthy levels of cholesterol – if consumers follow something called the “Smart Balance Food Plan”. The plan involves limiting total fat to around 30% of calories consumed per day, avoiding trans fat and exercising regularly.

The new popcorn lines are available in three-pack boxes with an SRP of US$2.69 and individual trial bags with a suggested price of $0.50.
