
US foodservice giant US Foods has struck a deal to buy produce supplier Freshway Foods.
The transaction, announced yesterday (19 May) is expected to be finalised next month. Financial details were not disclosed.
Freshway Foods, based in Ohio, supplies fresh-cut produce to customers in the retail and foodservice channels. The products Freshway Foods offers to retailers include deli salad kits and grab-and-go salads.
“We are very excited about this new partnership with US Foods,” Phil Gilardi and Frank Gilardi, the two owners of Freshway Foods, said in a joint statement. “Since we started this business, our success has been built upon our commitment to our associates and our customers and we are looking forward to the next chapter for Freshway Foods as part of a well established and reputable company like US Foods.”
US Foods had not responded to a request from just-food for further comment at the time of writing.
