US cheese maker Monterey Gourmet Foods is to close its Eugene, Oregon facility with the loss of 25 jobs.

The premises will close on 4 September, after which, manufacturing of the company’s Emerald Valley Kitchen products will move to Kent, Washington.
“This was a very difficult decision because it affects the lives of our people, their families and the community,” Eric Eddings, CEO of Monterey Gourmet Foods said today (14 August). “We want to thank our employees at the facility for their hard work, dedication, loyalty and many years of service.”
The company said it had assessed all of its production facilities and determined that relocating the Eugene plant production to the state-of-the-art Kent facility would “optimise overall asset utilisation”.
Monterey said the move would also provide customers with “more innovative and flexible production runs” that they require in response to changing consumer preferences.

Emerald Valley Kitchen was acquired by Monterey Gourmet Foods in 2003.
