Leading frozen food manufacturer McCain has said that it will re-align its business to help improve child nutrition.

Responding to increasing concerns over obesity rates and the consumption of trans fats, the world’s largest producer of frozen French fries has signed up to the US Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s nutritional guidelines.

“All of us at McCain believe that producing healthier products is good for people and good for business,” said McCain Foods USA CEO, Frank van Schaayk. “The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is breaking new ground as a catalyst for ensuring healthier choices for children, and we are eager to support their efforts.”

McCain said that its entire retail potato line became trans fat free in 2003. It has now pledged to convert all of its foodservice French fry and potato products to 100% trans fat free before December of this year.

The food group said that it aims to meet the growing demand for healthier alternatives through the introduction of new products in the coming year.
