US food giant Kraft Foods has recalled three varieties of its Velveeta Shells & Cheese microwaveable cups.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said on Saturday (1 October) that there may be traces of small, thin wire bristle pieces in the products.

The recalled products include single and four-pack Velveeta Shells & Cheese Original microwaveable cups and Velveeta Shells & Cheese microwaveable cups line made with 2% milk in the same packaging formats. The single Velveeta Rotini & Cheese Broccoli microwaveable cups are also being recalled.

The ‘best when used by’ dates range from 25 March 2012 to 16 May 2012.

The FDA has advised consumers who purchased affected products not to eat them and return them to the store of purchase. Kraft is issuing the recall as a precaution.

There have been no reports of consumer injuries or complaints. The affected products were manufactured in Champaign, Illinois and Lakeville, Minnesota and approximately 137,000 cases of the affected products were shipped to customers across the US.
