US spreads-to-coffee group JM Smucker has acquired organic and gluten-free products manufacturer Enray.
Smucker said today (21 August), the deal to buy privately-held Enray will “strengthen” and add to its natural foods business. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
California-based Enray is a manufacturer and marketer of premium organic, gluten-free ancient grain products, including sprouted and non-sprouted grains, pasta, and cookies. Products are primarily sold under its flagship TruRoots brand.
The company generated sales of around US$45m over its latest 12-month period.
The transaction will include a leased manufacturing facility in Livermore in California.
“The addition of the truRoots brand and its organic quinoa and other ancient grain products provides an on-trend, compelling product platform across the rapidly growing gluten-free market,” said Smucker CEO Richard Smucker.
