FreshDirect has appointed founder and CFO Jason Ackerman as CEO of the US-based online grocer.
The company announced the move yesterday (16 May), saying that the board unanimously voted Ackerman to lead the company. He replaces Richard Braddock, who left the company in March.
Commenting on the appointment, chairman Jim Manzi said: “Jason Ackerman is the right person to lead FreshDirect into its next phase of growth. He has been a driving force behind FreshDirect’s unique business model and is highly respected within our organisation. As a senior leader, he has helped develop and deliver on FreshDirect’s growth strategy, most recently with our new investment and partnership with Morrisons.”
Morrisons, the UK’s fourth largest grocer, took an approximately 10% stake in FreshDirect in March.
Morrisons CEO Dalton Phillips, who is also a member of the FreshDirect board said: “Jason has already won our confidence and, as he leads FreshDirect forward, Jason and the management team will continue to have my full support.”
Before founding the company in 1999, Ackerman was an investment banker with Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette and Crown Capital Group, where he specialised in mergers and acquisitions and corporate financings primarily for the supermarket and speciality retail industries.
