Delhaize has made what it claims are “significant” investments in 178 of its Food Lion stores across five states.

The investment, at stores in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia, has also seen the creation of around 800 jobs to support the revamp.

The changes include faster checkouts, cleaner aisles, fresher produce backed by a double-your-money-back guarantee and lower prices on 6,000 items store-wide.

Delhaize said the investment will “continue to position the company for future success”.

The revamp is part of a repositioning strategy by Delhaize of its 1,100 Food Lion stores, which began in 2012 and involve updating its store network, closing stores and investing in price cuts.
