US discount retailer Family Dollar Stores has entered California by opening four stores.

The company said yesterday (14 November) that the stores in Ontario, Rialto, Riverside and Fontana would help its position as “one of the nation’s fastest growing-retailers”.

“We’re proud and excited to bring our value and convenience to more customers with our newest stores in California,” said Family Dollar chairman and CEO Howard Levine. “These stores offer an opportunity to introduce our new neighbours to a more compelling place to shop for everything they need for their families.”

Family Dollar also said it plans to open 450 to 500 new stores in fiscal 2012.
