Moroccan conglomerate Mutandis has made a purchase in the US, acquiring long-standing seafood brand Season from locally-based RAB Food Group.

The deal, for an undisclosed amount, sees Mutandis, an industrial group specialising in household product businesses, taking over a 100-year-old brand best known for its canned sardines.

Casablanca Stock Exchange-listed Mutandis, which counts French private-equity firm Amethis as a shareholder, already owns the Josiane and Marine canned fish brands.

New Jersey-based Season’s products are sold via the retail and club channels in the US with Walmart and Costco among its customers. It turned over US$54.6m for the fiscal year ending 30 June 2020. It sources its seafood from around the world, including from Morocco which is a major player in canned sardines.

Mutandis said the deal will provide it with access to the main distribution chains in the US for its Moroccan food products.

RAB Food Group is affiliated to the Manischewitz kosher food company and private-equity firm Bain Capital Credit.
