The potato supplier at the centre of allegations linking Sainsbury’s to a GBP3m (US$6.1m) bungs scandal has said it has so far found no other irregular payments made to other UK retailers.

Greenvale said today (17 March) that it would continue with its own investigation after two people were arrested over alleged backhanders.

A buyer at Sainsbury’s, John Maylam, was arrested after allegedly receiving payments from Greenvale, which supplies around 45% of Sainsbury’s potatoes.

David Baxter, Greenvale’s operations director was also arrested. Both men have been released on bail.

Greenvale’s owner, Produce Investments, uncovered the alleged payments after an audit of its financial accounts.
