Sales of yoghurt in the UK rose to almost GBP1bn (US$2bn) in 2007 as the trend for healthier eating among UK consumers continues to grow.
The latest figures, released by market analysts TNS Worldpanel, showed sales were up 5.5% year-on-year to GBP989m, with yoghurt taking a 58% share of the yoghurts and chilled desserts category.
Danone’s Activia has pushed Muller Light off the top spot, and has seen sales grow 16.4% in a market worth GBP1.7bn.
Also performing well are Activia Fat Free Yogurts, sitting just outside the top ten, and Muller Vitality now at number nine, reflecting the continued success of functional products.
Fromage Frais is the smallest sector with a share of 12% (GBP203m) but is growing in value by 5.7%, TNS said. Yoplait Petits Filous and Petits Filous Frubes are the largest brands with a strong year-on-year performance.
