Baker Warburtons has acquired UK garlic bread producer Giles Foods for an undisclosed sum.

The deal for the Milton Keynes-based company is reported to be worth more than GBP10m (US$15.2m). Warburtons’ said the deal was part of plans to diversify its business, it said today (21 May).

Giles Foods is a family-run business with an annual turnover of GBP26m. The company produces branded and private-label baked products including garlic breads, dough balls, French and Italian breads and Danish pastries, which are sold to retailers, restaurants, pub chains and catering companies.

The company operates under the Artisan Bakers brand and employs around 300 staff across two sites in Milton Keynes and Warminster.

Warburtons said it will run Giles Foods as a separate business, with the current management team remaining in place.
