UK crisp manufacturer Walkers has withdrawn a television advert after the Advertising Standards Authority received a number of complaints claiming that it was “offensive”.
The advert, starring retired footballer Gary Lineker, showed the top of a bus being sliced off as it passed under a low bridge.
The company told just-food that it has withdrawn the advert. Walkers added that it would comment further on the issue this afternoon (31 March).
Speaking to just-food today, the the Advertising Standards Authority said that it had launched an investigation.
“Ultimately, if the ad is found to be in breech of our regulations it has to be withdrawn and not repeated,” a spokesperson said. “Although Walkers has already withdrawn the advert, we will complete our investigation as it sets a precedent for what is and is not acceptable.”
