The UK biscuit market has seen a turbulent year, the latest report from research and consultancy firm Leatherhead International has suggested, with major acquisitions and consolidation from United Biscuits allowing the company to dominate the sector.
The maker of McVities and Jacobs boasts a 40% share of the savoury UK biscuit market, while its closest rival PepsiCo controls 18% of the sector. With brands including Cadbury’s and Maryland, the Burton’s group controls 15%.
McVities, Leatherhead said, is the top biscuit brand, accounting for 23% of sales last year.
