The UK’s largest retailer Tesco has missed the Competition Commission deadline of yesterday (10 August) for returning a questionnaire that will help the CC complete the first stage of its inquiry into the UK’s grocery retail sector.

According to a report in The Guardian newspaper, the 131-question survey is highly detailed. For example, question 56 asks for 20 pieces of information about each store in the supermarket chain for each month from May 2001 on – facts required include the number of staff, number of hours stores were open and so on.

Tesco said that with 1,000 stores, it was unable to provide the volume of information required in the allotted time.
