Symington’s is to launch a line of soups under the Ainsley Harriott brand in the UK.
With a “premium look and feel”, the soups are packaged in plastic tubs and targeted at the younger consumer, offering an alternative to canned soup, the firm said.
Citing Kantar Worldpanel data for the year to 13 October, Symington’s said the UK ambient soup category is worth GBP354m (US$566.1m) and growing at 3%.
The Ainsley Harriott line is available in six variants, including: red Thai chicken; Spanish chorizo & paprika; and Tuscan cherry tomato.
Available at Tesco, Morrisons and Asda, the soups have an RRP of GBP1.69.
The launch will be supported by a press campaign and retail media activation, including product sampling and personal appearances by Harriott.
