UK food group Samworth Brothers has acquired fruit and malt loaf brand Soreen for an undisclosed sum from baker McCambridge Group.
The acquisition, agreed on 7 February, includes the Soreen bakery site at Trafford Park in Manchester and all its assets, including its 125 staff, a spokesperson confirmed to just-food.
“This is an opportunity that fits well with the rest of our portfolio,” she added.
Leicestershire-based Samworth Brothers owns brands including Ginsters and Dickinson & Morris but makes the bulk of its sales from supplying own-label chilled food to UK retailers.
Soreen, part of the McCambridge Group, has existed in the UK since 1939. The company’s product range has also developed in recent years to include new flavours plus other food-to-go and breakfast products.
The sale is the latest disposal to be made by McCambridge. In December 2012, it sold its own-label cake business to private-equity firm NBGI. The deal for Soreen leaves McCambridge with a bakery business in Ireland.
